A cassette for a thermal transfer dye ribbon comprises a casing (1) containing bearing means (10) having rotably mounted thereon a cylindrical member (15) having on its periphery a mark (16) carrying information capable of being detected by a sensor on rotation of the member (15) and means operatively engageable with a drive source which is disposed outside the casing to cause rotation of the member.
