<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To speedily access to limited function/information of a portable computer by providing an immediate use display which can be viewed even if the cover of the portable computer is in a closed state for the cover and mapping the sub-set of picture elements in a main display on the immediate use display. SOLUTION: A lap top-type portable computer 10 contains a keyboard, the main display and function keys. The immediate use display 39 which a user can view even if the cover of the computer 10 is closed is provided on the cover. When the immediate use display 39 is active, the immediate use function keys 31-38 execute mapping to the functions of the function keys in a main body. The sub-set of the picture elements in the main display of the computer 10 is mapped on the immediate use display 39. Thus, access to limited function/ information can speedily be executed without opening the cover or using the keyboard and the like.</p> |
