摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve mechanical strength and corrosion resistance in a basic environment under low partial pressure of oxygen by specifying the impurity Ca content of magnesia clinker and suppressing the formation of calcium titanate at the grain boundaries of magnesia grains. SOLUTION: A mixture of 80-75wt.% magnesia clinker consisting of coarse magnesia grains of >=1mm average grain diameter, medium magnesia grains of 1-0.15mm average grain diameter and <=0.2wt.%, in total, of <=0.2wt.% (expressed in terms of CaO) Ca, <=0.2wt.% (expressed in terms of SiO2 ) Si and <=0.1wt.% (expressed in terms of Al2 O3 )Al as impurities with 20-25wt.% titania grains of <=0.15mm average grain diameter is sintered at 1,600-1,800 deg.C to obtain the objective magnesia-titania refractory material contg. 4-50wt.% magnesium o-titanate formed at the grain boundaries of magnesia grains.
