PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new non-essential region for the growth of a avipoxvirus(APV), without reducing the growth of a recombinant APV simultaneously containing an E. coli β-galactosidase gene and a specific promoter in a chicken body and useful as a vaccine, etc. SOLUTION: This non-essential region of avipoxvirus(APV) is a genom region non-essential for the growth of the avipoxvirus, capable of obtaining a recombinant APV by inserting thereto a β-galactosidase gene derived from an E. coli together with vaccinia virus 7.5K promoter and having a growing capability in a chicken body not substantially reduced when comparing with that before the insertion of the β-galactosidase gene, and giving a recombinant APV not reducing the growing capability in spite of the insertion of a foreign gene, and useful as an anti-Newcastle disease vaccine, etc., by using a gene encoding an F antigen and an HN antigen of the Newcastle disease virus as the foreign gene. |
