<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the efficiency of an arc furnace. SOLUTION: In the case of partially melting a material to be melted in the arc furnace 1, the charging material is supplied into a packing opening hole of a hollow electrode 7 through a chip scrap conveyor 25 during this critical melting step to avoid the damage to the inner wall of the arc furnace 1 and the lowering of electrical output. By this method, the arc is shortened between the molten material 4 and the hollow electrode 7 in the arc furnace 1. A chip scrap 9 is arranged at the end part of the chip scrap conveyor 25 apart from the electrode and easily separatable and, therefore, the arc furnace 1 can be tilted to discharge the molten material 4. As the charging material, e.g. the harmful waste material to be removed, such as filter dust, can be included.</p> |
