PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a melody composition device which speedily reflects variation of external input in a played melody and does not lose the continuity of the whole melody. SOLUTION: Melody data corresponding to respective key inputs are stored, the melody data are composed of quit data as switching information making it possible to switch the melody in such timing that the continuity of the composite melody is maintained and performance data, and melody data corresponding to key inputs are selected to carry on a musical performance (steps 301-312). When there is a key input during the musical performance (steps 305: YES), a search quit mode is entered and the data of this key input is stored (step 306). When information to be played next is quit data (step 309: YES) and the mode is the search quit mode (step 313: YES), switching to the melody corresponding to the input key being played is performed (step 303) to play the new melody (steps 303-313). Therefore, the new melody is smoothly put together halfway in the melody which is being played firstly, and then played. |
