PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress self-vibration phenomenon while keeping high activity of a Pd-bearing catalyst and prolong the life of the catalyst even under high pressure. SOLUTION: Together with (B) one or more kinds of particles 3 selected from Pt-Pb alloy particles, Pt-PdO alloy particles, mixed particles of Pt and Pd, and mixed particles of Pt and PdO, (A) Rh particles 2 are deposited on the surface of a carrier 1 and (A) particles 2 and (B) particles are so arranged as to be kept at intervals. This catalyst is prepred by depositing Rh on the surface of the carrier 1 and after that depositing Pt together with Pd or Pt together with PdO or Pt together with Pd and PdO.
