PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To especially prevent wrong detection of a motion vector in a motion detecting circuit which detects a motion vector of image signal compression. SOLUTION: This detector is provided with sampling circuits 10 to 1k which thin reference data and plural search data and acquire image data of low resolution, 1st finite difference circuits 21 to 2k which perform motion detection about the image data of low resolution, a 1st comparator circuit 3 which selects the finite difference circuit whose difference data is the smallest and outputs a motion vector, a control circuit 4 which outputs a control signal that limits a search range of a direction whose motion is small from the motion vector, 2nd finite difference circuits 51 to 5k which perform motion detection about the image data of normal resolution within the limited search range, a 2nd comparator circuit 6 which outputs a signal that compares the difference data and selects the smallest difference circuit and a selector 7 which outputs a motion vector from the finite difference circuit which is selected, in response to a selection signal. |
