PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic head with which the long life and high reliability are embodied by an improvement in wear resistance without deteriorating the output characteristics, etc., at the time of recording and reproducing of the magnetic head. SOLUTION: A pair of the magnetic cores 1, 2 of a magnetic head obtd. by joining and integrating a pair of the magnetic cores 1, 2 and forming a magnetic gap between the butt surfaces thereof comprises single crystal ferrite formed with (110) faces at the surfaces 1A, 2A intersecting orthogonally with the butt surfaces. The one magnetic core is so arranged that the angle 6 formed by the <100> crystal direction at the surfaces 1A, 2A intersecting orthogonally with the butt surfaces and the butt surfaces attains a range of 0 deg.<=θ<=26 deg.. The other magnetic core is so arranged that the angleθformed by the <100> crystal direction at the surfaces intersecting orthogonally with the butt surfaces and the butt surfaces attains a range of 154 deg.<=θ<=180 deg..
