PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve corrosion resistance and strength in a high temp. region by incorporating Fe into AlN powder. SOLUTION: Powder of a mixture or alloy contg. Al and >=1wt.% Fe and/or Fe compd. is mixed with a binder and compacted. The resultant compact is nitrided by firing at >=1,400 deg.C in a nonoxidizing atmosphere contg. nitrogen and it is crushed to obtain the objective AlN powder for reflactories. Refractory stock prepd. by blending 0.5-93wt.% of the AlN powder with 2-60wt.% aluminous aggregate, 1-30wt.% SiC aggregate, 1-30wt.% carbon and 3-30wt.% org. binder is compacted, dewaxed and fired at >=1,200 deg.C to obtain the objective refractories. |
