PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To uniformly and certainly clean the surface of a thermal head in such a state that the contact force of the thermal head and a cleaning member is reduced by arranging the cleaning member so as to be movable in the direction parallel to the arranging direction of heating elements arranged to the thermal head. SOLUTION: When one color recording operation is completed on one recording paper 13, a thermal head 12 is raised from a platen 3 and a delivery means 34 is driven to return the ribbon cassette 15 on a ribbon cassette carrier 16 to an empty cassette holder. Subsequently, a carriage 5 is moved to the position opposed to a cleaning member 41 and the thermal head 12 is downed to be brought into contact with the cleaning member 41 under pressure. Thereafter, a paper feed motor 39 is driven to feed recording paper 13 in the direction opposite to a recording feed direction and, in the contact state with the thermal head 12, the cleaning member 41 is moved to remove the deposit on the thermal head 12. |
