PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture an electrode plate excellent in discharge characteristic with high productivity by setting the tensile strength of a paste paper to be stuck to an active material surface filled in an expanded grid body lower in the extending direction of the grid body than the vertical direction. SOLUTION: In the manufacture of an electrode plate, a strip lead or lead alloy sheet 4 wound in roll is worked into a mesh form by an expanding machine 5 to provide a strip grid body 4a. A strip paste paper 6 is supplied to the lower surface of the grid body 4a, and a pasted active material 8 is filled thereto from the upper surface by a filling machine 7. The same strip paste paper 9 is arranged thereon, pressure applied thereto by a roller 10, passed through a dryer 11, and cut into a prescribed form by a cutter 12. Thus, the paste papers 6, 9 are thinned and minimized in weight by reducing the quantity of the laterally extending fiber while keeping the longitudinal tensile strength to the degree to which they are never ruptured in manufacture, whereby the electric resistance can be reduced to improve the discharge characteristic. |
