PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a sialon bonded SiC brick having superior physical properties of resistance to oxidation by gaseous CO and alkali resistance as well as to enable firing with an ordinary tunnel kiln without especially feeding expansive gaseous N2 . SOLUTION: A mixture of So with Al and alumina powder having <=74μm max. Particle diameter and <=15μm average particle diameter is compacted and fired in carbon powder to form sialon bond and the objective sialon bonded SiC brick is produced. The sialon is represented by the formula, Si6- ZAlZOZN8- Z (where Z is 1.5-3.3). The So content of the mixture is preferably 4-9wt.%, the firing is preferably carried out at 1,300-1,600 deg.C and the ash content of the carbon powder is desirably <=6wt.%. |
