A process and a device for treating waste material from fish and/or animals, and also a manure which is produced from the waster material. In the process, the waste material is refined and fed into a reactor container 1 in which it decomposes anaerobically, with methane being produced and the decomposed waste material being removed from the reactor container 1. The device possesses a reactor container 1, which is placed in a pool of water 2 or in the ground 2' and whose process temperature, of less than 6 degree C, corresponds to that of the water or the ground. The waste material which decomposed into the manure was pressed between two layers of peat to form a disc-shaped product. <IMAGE>
