<p>Apparatus for separating particles from a fluid flow comprising separating apparatus (16) and at least one bleed valve (30), wherein the bleed valve (30) is adapted so as to be responsive to a change in pressure differential measured across the separating apparatus (16). This arrangement is particularly appropriate to vacuum cleaners incorporating cyclonic dust-separating apparatus in that the bleed valve is more reliably operated in response to a reduction in airflow. This ensures efficient functioning of the cyclonic dust-separating apparatus and reduces the risk of overheating of the motor. One example of a suitable bleed valve (50, Fig 3) comprises a piston (54) biassed to the open position by a spring (90) and held on a seat (78) as long as the pressure differential (applied via ports 56, 58) remains sufficient. A central support rod (86) may actuate a warning light or switch (94, 96) to switch off the vacuum motor e.g. after a set time.</p> |
