An internal mixer for elastomers, especially rubbers and rubber compounds has a mixing chamber with one or two rotors, an upper, closeable material inlet and a swivel-mounted trap door at the bottom. A vacuum connection to the mixing chamber allows mixing under vacuum. Air tight walls(14) enclose both sides of the mixer around the openings for the mixing shaft rotors and connections(16) from the walls to vacuum source or compressed air supply ensures there is no pressure difference between the mixing chamber and the enclosed chamber within the walls. |
