摘要 PURPOSE:To prevent the shift in a piercing direction and the rotary shift in a diameter direction and to also prevent the leakage of exhaust gas by providing a closure means closing the outer peripheral surface of a honeycomb structure over the entire periphery thereof at the positions of the protruding parts exiting adjacent to notch parts. CONSTITUTION:A honeycomb structure 1 has many protruding parts 2 formed to the outer peripheral surface thereof and notch parts 5 are formed between the adjacent protruding parts 2 in the piercing direction of the honeycomb structure 1. When the notch parts 5 are formed, a closure means 7 closing the through-holes 4 having to communicate with the notch parts 5 over the entire periphery of the outer peripheral surface of the honeycomb structure 1 at the positions of the protruding parts 2 existing adjacent to the notch parts 5 at least on one side of the notch parts 5 in the direction of the through-holes 4 is provided. That is, when seal members 8 are inserted in the notch parts 5 and the protruding parts 2 adjacent to the notch parts 5 are brought into contact with the seal members 8, sealing is achieved between the closure means 7 and the seal members 8 to prevent the leakage of exhaust gas. The shift in the direction of the through-holes 4 and the rotary shift in a diameter direction can be prevented.
