Topical compositions contain melatonin (MT) or one of its analogues (I) in a cosmetic or pharmaceutical carrier. The novelty is that the amount of MT or (I) present is (i) sufficient to allow, after topical application, the passage into the skin of 10<-15> - 10<-7>M of MT or (I) or (ii) below 10<-4> wt.%.
