PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain with ease a stable binder composition for an inorganic coating which shows only a small change in viscosity over time, by incorporating thereto an alumina sol dispersed in a hydrophilic organic solvent or water and an alkoxysilane compound having a polymerizable group. SOLUTION: This binder composition for an inorganic coating comprises (A) an alumina sol dispersed in a hydrophilic organic solvent or water, (B) an alkoxysilane compound having a polymerizable group, such asγ- glicidoxypropyl trimethoxy silane, and optionally (C) a curing agent, such as triethanolamine. This inorganic coating composition is obtained by compounding the binder composition with an inorganic pigment, for example, alumina, titania, silica, zinc oxide, calcium carbonate, barium sulfate, aluminum hydroxide, talc, bentonite, black iron oxide and red iron oxide. This inorganic coating composition not only exhibits excellent formability into a film, but also can provide a coating film being excellent in adhesiveness, resistance to hot water, to a solvent and to cracking, and the like.
