PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a program data transmitting and receiving system and method in which the utilization efficiency of a recording medium in which received program data are recorded can be sharply improved, and data transmitting efficiency can be improved. SOLUTION: At the time of receiving a request for the transmission of N (N>=1) pieces of programs from a receiving-side device 20, a transmitting-side device 10 selects proper M (N>=M>=1) pieces of program data from program data bank 13, so that the total value of the data rates of the M pieces of program data can be less than the transmission rate of a transmission path 30, and less than the recording rate of a receiving-side recording device 23 and time division multiplexes and transmits the program data. Thus, dummy data amounts necessary for matching the data rate of the received data with the recording rate of the recording device can be reduced, and the utilization efficiency of the recording medium can be sharply improved, compared with a conventional system. |
