PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a magnetic head for reproducing digital magnetic recording information by using an MI element (magnetic detection element using magnetic impedance effect) to excellently and sensitively execute reproducing with high magnetic impedance effect and to make recording into high density. SOLUTION: A magnetic recording medium 10 is magnetized alternately and reversely corresponding to a digital signal along a relative moving direction for the magnetic head, and a boundary 11 of magnetization is made into a straight line along a direction vertical to the moving direction. The MI element 12 is confronted with the surface of the medium 10 in parallel, and is arranged so that the longitudinal direction of the MI element 12 is tilted by a prescribed angleθfor the direction of the boundary 11 of the magnetization of the medium 10 in a plane parallel to the surface. A high frequency current is applied to the MI element 12 from terminals 13A, 13B, and an external magnetic field from the medium 10 is detected by the magnetic impedance effect, and a regenerative signal is obtained.
