PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently use a display by providing a means which automatically switches a screen to a longitudinally long style for handling of a longitudinally written document or a laterally long style for handling a laterally written document. SOLUTION: This device consists of a ROM 4 which stores a longitudinal/ lateral display switching program for a document, a RAM 5 which serves as a work area for executing the program, etc. Then a user selectively specifies form size, a form direction, a character string direction, multiple column, character size, character pitch, line pitch, etc., for a document to be prepared on the screen by using an electronic pen 2. The system generates a header part by writing data on the specification result of the user in an area for document data prepared on the RAM 5. Then the screen is switched to an input editing screen for the document and when lateral writing is specified as the character string direction of format setting, a normal document input editing screen which is used laterally long is obtained, but when longitudinal writing is specified, an editing screen for longitudinal writing is obtained. |
