PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for processing a silver halide photographic sensitive material capable of reducing the replenishing amount and enhancing processing stability and preventing occurrence of silver stains and the like and improving image quality. SOLUTION: This silver halide photographic sensitive material contains silver chloride in an amount of >=20mol.% of the total silver halide grains and flat silver halide grains having an aspect ratio of >=2 and occupying >=50% of the projection areas of the total silver halide grains in a silver halide emulsion, and the photosensitive material contains silver in a coating amount of a <=1.5g/m<2> of one side and a gelatin in a coating amount of <=2.1g/m<2> and a swelling rate of <=180% and it is processed by using a developing solution containing ascorbic acids as a developing solution and replenishing the developing solution in an amount of <=150ml/m<2> and replenishing a fixing solution in an amount of <=300ml/m<2> (of the photosensitive material in each case), by an automatic development machine.
