FIELD: electric communication. SUBSTANCE: method involves encoding information units using M-level code during transmission and decoding signal in states. Decoding is finished when error is detected or M stage is finished. Test interval for each decoding stage involves calculation of number of units which have detected errors. This number is used for calculation of non-detected error for each stage from first to (M-K). Probability of non-detected error is assessed for each stage from (M-K+1) to M as function depending on two parameters: number of check characters and multiplicity of reliably detected errors in corresponding stages of code.
