PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily evaluate the skin irritation at high sensitivity by measuring the activation capability of NFκB which is one of the transfer factors of skin forming cells treated with a subject. SOLUTION: NFκB is a protein made up of two kinds of subunits, p50 and p65, and when not irritated it is present in cytoplasm while bonding with an inhibitor protein I-κB; when irritated by a cytokine such as IL-1 or TNF-α, the I-κB is inactivated by kinase activated thereby, the NFκB released migrates toward a nucleus, and activation of transfer occurs. Then, some kind of surfactant or the like works to directly activate the NFκB in skin forming cells, and since the strength of that activation capability serves as an effective index for evaluating the skin irritation, the NFκB activation capability of the skin forming cells treated with a subject is measured to evaluate the skin irritation of a substance applied to the skin.
