摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture an optical element, specially a waveguide type optical switch and a photocoupler capable of changing connection by a simple means by using a material, whose scattering ability is changed by heating, for the material of an optical waveguide. SOLUTION: In an optical element forming a material layer 2 whose light scattering ability is changed and an exothermic resistor layer 3 on a material 1, by heating the exothermic resistor layer 3 by impressing a desired current and controlling the light scattering ability of the material layer 2 whose light scattering ability is changed, light quantities transmitted through the respective optical waveguides are made to change. The photocoupler is optically connected to at least one and more light emitting elements and light receiving elements by means of the optical waveguide made of a material whose light scattering ability is changed by heating. By changing time light scattering ability of the optical waveguide by heating the optical waveguide, turning on-off of connection and changeover of connecting combination of the light emitting element and light receiving element are performed.</p>
