PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remotely sense a submarine buried cable by scanning it by a transmitting beam generated by a parametric sound source. SOLUTION: A transmitting beam 11 is transmitted from a transmitter- receiver 2 loaded on, for example, a ship 1, and a surface 8, perpendicular to a cable direction is scanned at a prescribed scanning angle to provide the two-dimensional information. While the ship 1 is moved along a cable 3, the scanning is repeated, and the maximum value of reflecting intensity in the same beam propagating time in each scanning in continuously displayed to the moving distance. Since the reflection from the cable 3 is continuously observed, it can be easily discriminated from rock. The beam 11 is required to have a frequency of about 15kHz because of the resolution for cable search, and desired to have a sharp directivity, and therefore, a parametric sound source having a secondary frequency of 10-20kHz is used. The transmitter-receiver 2 is loaded on a submarine to perform the measurement from near the bottom, whereby a probe can be performed even in any deep sea.
|
