The method includes the following stages. A magnetic sensor (31) is displaced relative to a source (2). The sensor produces a signal (t) which is time variable. A whole number n of signals is determined, identical to n signals susceptible of being obtained by sampling, for n series of periodic recurrent sampling instants, of the measured signal. The n series having the same recurrence period and each of them are shifted in time, with respect to the preceding by a fraction of the time period equal to 1/n. Then determining for each of the n signals, the values of these projections over at least a range of base functions, and a projected energy. Selecting from amongst these n signals those whose energy is the greatest. Determining the magnetic moment of the source from the values of the projections of the selected signal. The measured signals are sampled for a first series of sampling instants and the n signals are calculated by interpolation from the measured samples. |
