PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the font manager equipped with an effective automatic font extracting function. SOLUTION: This font manager has a host I/F 111 for a two-way communication with a host device 112 and registers a font downloaded from the host device or other peripheral equipment in a disk drive 114. The font registered in the disk drive 114 is managed by a CPU 101 and the manager is equipped with a function which sends only a font registered previously in a controller 100 itself back when an internal font extraction instruction for answering a list of owned font names is sent from the host device 112. When font data are tool many to store in a reception area that the host device 112 has prepared, this function makes it possible to preferentially select a font of high use frequency in a ROM. Therefore, a waste of transmission of a large amount of font data and an overflow of the reception area can be avoided. |
