PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of practical use and low cost for charging a nickel-hydrogen storage battery for emergency lighting, in conformity with the characteristics of emergency lighting applications. SOLUTION: A nickel-hydrogen storage battery is charged with a charging current of 0.1CmA⊕10% during a given period of time of 10 hours or more but within 24 hours after supplying a charging power. Then, the charging is continued with the charging current of between 1CA/100 or more and less than 1CmA/30. An emergency lighting device is incorporated either in a lighting fixture or used independetnly. Because, in general, it is installed in a place under a severe temperature, the charging current is lowered and set to the range which satisfies charging characteristics, required for emergency lighting. |
