Methods and devices for helicopter-borne mine countermeasures using the body (101) of a known passive helihoisted sonar to which are fitted transmitting antennas (105, 106) in positions parallel to the axis thereof, and a receiving antenna perpendicular to said axis and consisting of two hinged arms (107, 108) retractable into said body. The free ends of two further arms (114, 113) retractable into said body comprise propulsion means (111, 112) for stabilising the body about the axis thereof. Light helicopters capable of relocating and optionally destroying mines without backtracking may thus be used in mine countermeasures.
