SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DOCUMENT RETRIEVAL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the document retrieval system which effectively implements document retrieval in a local area and document retrieval in a global area through the Internet. SOLUTION: This system is equipped with two retrieval modules, i.e., a full-text retrieval module 15 which retrieves a document containing an indicated word or phrase by scanning all documents registered in a local document data base 13a and a key word retrieval module 16 which retrieves a key word matching the indicated word or phrase from a key word data base 13b, and which of the full-text retrieval module 15 and key word retrieval module 16 is actuated is decided from a reference history of the word or phrase indicated by the user (whether the retrieval is done through a WWW server 30). Consequently, a document retrieving method matching a retrieval object is automatically selected and efficient document retrieval making the user need not be area of the storage location of a document becomes possible.
