PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a flat cable connector into a small one with high density by eliminating the area occupied by a latch member used for latching a slider to an insulating housing, the slider applying a predetermined contact pressure to the conductor of a flat cable against a contact. SOLUTION: A flat cable connector 10 has a number of flat contacts 30 each pressed into position inside a contact receiving passage 25 in an insulating housing 20. Each of the contacts 30 has first and second arms 33, 34 which extend roughly parallel to each other and in the forward direction from a base 31 fixed inside the contact receiving passage 25. A contact 35 is formed near the free end of the first arm 33, and an engaging projection 36 is formed at the free end of the second arm 34 which projects from the front surface 23 of the insulating housing 20. The rib 42 of a slider 40 is pressed into the end of a flat cable inserted between the arms 33, 34 to impart a contact pressure between the contact 35 and the conductor of the flat cable, and an engaging recess 47 and the engaging projection 36 are latched together to secure the slider 40 to the insulating housing 20 via the contact 30. |
