PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device where the height measure of a housing is made smaller than a conventional liquid crystal display device by eliminating the need of swelling the front side lower part of the housing in a downward direction. SOLUTION: A light receiving window part 11 transmitting infrared ray emitted by a remote controlling switch is provided at the lower side of an image display window part 4A at least housing a liquid crystal display unit at the inside of the housing 1 and provided at the front surface part 9 of the housing 1. A light receiving substrate 17 which is a small sized substrate and where a light receiving element facing the light receiving window part 11 is mounted is arranged at the substrate step part of a liquid crystal display panel 6 on the back side of the front surface part 9 of the housing 1 opposed to the image display null area S of the front side lower part of the liquid crystal display panel 6 of the liquid crystal display unit.
