A method and apparatus for transporting a solution of cellulose in an amine oxide solvent using a gear pump (11) having a pump body (12) and a pair of meshing gear wheels (15, 16) mounted on shafts (17, 18) rotatable in bearings (21) fixed relative to the pump body (12). The temperature of at least one of said bearings (21) is monitored and used to control the volume throughput of the pump (11) in dependence on the monitored temperature.
