The colour receiving element (IA) for thermal dye transfer, with (A) a base, (B) a compound film and (C) a colour-receiving layer, in which film (B) has a microporous thermoplastic core with at least two non-porous thermoplastic surface layers on the side facing layer (C), and the base material (A) consists of paper with a density of not more than 0.8 g/cm integral 3. Also claimed is a similar element (IB) with a polyethylene- and/or polypropylene-coated paper base with a density of not more than 0.8 g/cm integral 3 and a receiving layer.
