<p>The present invention relates to means for eliminating crude oil or petroleum products pollution in soil, rocks, sludge or other objects in the environment having a capillary and porous structure. The method comprises introducing into the cleaning zone a solution of microorganisms capable of oxidising crude oil. Electrodes and more precisely an anode and a cathode are also introduced into the cleaning zone followed by water. An electrical direct current is then generated between said electrodes in order to create an electro-osmotic movement of the solution in the cleaning zone. The method further comprises separating the liquid which contains pollutants and accumulates at the cathode, as well as monitoring the concentration in the cleaning zone of substances inhibiting the vital functions of the crude-oil oxidising microorganisms. When the concentration decreases down to a level representing no danger for the vital functions of the microorganisms, the solution containing the latter is introduced into the cleaning zone. This method may be used for the microbiological cleaning of capillary and porous media contaminated by crude oil or petroleum products, and for removing from said media the substances inhibiting the vital functions of said microorganisms.</p> |
