Dynamic microbiological conversion process (composting)

A process is claimed for microbially converting solid or pasty organic residues in a compact device comprising chopping, sieving, and conveyor parts, an aerobic bioreactor and a biofilter. Components are moved continuously or quasi-continuously in the bioreactor (1) as a tubular stream with partial back mixing, and the conversion process is controlled with respect to air demand, temperature and throughput. Also claimed is an apparatus for carrying out the process, with a bioreactor vessel (1) comprising a tubular reactor with a U-shaped cross section and a helical agitator mounted on a shaft which is coaxial with its semi-circular lower section.
