A calendering process for the production of layers of foamed polyolefin, using a mixture of 100 pts. wt. polyolefin consisting of (a) 20-100% polyolefin elastomer (POE) and/or polyolefin plastomer (POP) obtained by polymerisation with metallocene catalysts and (b) 0-80% other polyolefin, up to 100 pts. wt. mineral filler and 1-10 pts. wt. chemical blowing agent (I). The process comprises rolling out the mixture at a suitable temperature on a multi-roll calender to form rolled sheet, optionally folding the sheet with other polyolefin sheets containing no blowing agent, and expanding by heating in a foaming oven to above the decomposition temperature of (I). Also claimed are coatings with foamed interlayers, obtained by this process.
