摘要 The method is applicable for the approximative computation of the exponential mean of a sequence of un coded numbers in floating point format used for sending cell rate information in ATM networks, each number being defined by means of an exponent en and a mantissa mn by a relationship in the form un = 2<e>n.(1 + mn/512). It consists in approximating the exponential mean by the value of the code associated with the exponential mean of code-words Un = 512.en + mn. The invention is applicable to ATM commutators and ATM terminals.
