Floating material used for absorbing oils and greases

Floating material comprising floatable fibrous materials enclosed with a stable hydrophobic protective film made of montan resin, is produced by: (a) crushing the fibrous materials; (b) saturating the crushed materials with water; (c) covering the saturated fibrous materials with a stable hydrophobic film; and (d) removing the water from the pores of the conditioned fibrous materials by drying to leave the hydrophobic coating.
