The sparking plug has an insulator (30) with an inserted central electrode and a metal housing which carries one more earth electrodes (16) at the periphery of a fixing thread (13) and an engaging surface for an assembly tool, and extends to the end of a section, in which it clamps the insulator between two sections (17,18). The housing (11) is extended in the direction opposite the combustion chamber side in such a manner, that it is in the form of a tubular extension, surrounds the insulator (30) at some distance, and in the direction of the sparking plug axis (51), at least extends or projects over this across a part of the usual free standing region of the insulator. The assembly tool engages at the endface at the extension (20) or at its elongation in the form of a sleeve (23). The extension (20) is attached in one piece at the housing. The extension (20) is arranged as a separate part at the upper part of a divided housing.
