The cathode ray tube display 30 receives control inputs from a drive circuit 20 that is coupled to a protection circuit 140. The system has a microcomputer 100 that receives horizontal and vertical synchronisation signals from a central computer, eg a PC, and executes a check for a change in frequency. When the frequency exceeds a limit, a status signal generator circuit 110 outputs to the protection circuit and blocks output of the synchronisation signals.
