The hydraulic brake system includes a main brake cylinder connected to wheel brake cylinders across a changeover valve. A return pump (32) returns the brake hydraulic fluid to the main cylinder. A hydro-accumulator (46) for the intermediate storage of the brake fluid allowed by the outlet valve from the wheel brake cylinder, is connected between the outlet valve and the suction side of the return pump. The hydro-accumulator (46) has a storage connection valve system (48), by which it is connectable with the pressure side or the suction side of the return pump (32). The storage connection valve system (48) has a 3/2 way storage connection valve (48) also a non-return valve (50) connectable between the 3/2 way valve and the pressure side of the return pump. Which is subjected to a flow in the direction of the hydro-accumulator.
