The axle comprises a fixed part (52) which is connected with an inner hub (14) and its rotating part with a radial outer hub (38). A brake cylinder (58) is arranged ring-shaped around the inner hub and is firmly fixed to it. The brake cylinder connected to the fixed part has an axially movable clearance compensation part (68), which supports via a radially effective spring component (72) against a brake piston (60) movable in the brake cylinder. The clearance compensation part may be a ring cylinder locating on the inner hub, between which and the likewise ring-shaped brake piston, apart from the radially effective spring component, a ring (70) is arranged.
