A cordless electrically-powered water-heating vessel (7) has a planar heating element (1) secured to the vessel (7) by virtue of the vessel (7) having a mounting flange (6) which is apertured at a plurality of locations (5) and by virtue of the heating element (1) being sealingly secured to the mounting flange (6) by means of screw-threaded fastening studs (2) which pass through the apertures (5) of the mounting flange (6). This arrangement provides for ready replacement of the heating element and enables a uniform sealing force to be achieved.
