<p>A low delay noise reduction filter (30) for enhancing noisy signals, such as speech or music. In accordance with the invention, a noisy signal is passed through a first signal path including an input whitening filter (2) and a gain filter (9) to produce a first signal. The noisy signal is also passed through a second signal path to produce a second signal. The first signal is subtracted from the second signal to form a difference signal which is passed through a third signal path to produce an enhanced output signal. The first signal path may further include a transposed filter (5) corresponding to the input whitening filter (2). The second path may include a transposed noise whitening filter (7). The third path may include one or more inverse noise whitening filters (14). The filter has application in digital audio devices such as telephones, hearing aids, and speech recognition systems.</p> |
