Sodium peroxo:di:sulphate and sodium hydroxide production by electrolysis

Na2S2O8 and NaOH are both produced from Na2SO4 in an electrolytic process carried out in a cell with the anode and cathode chambers separated by a cation exchange membrane. The temp. is set at 30-70 deg C and a Na2SO4 soln. that is at least 75% satd. at this temp. is fed into the anode chamber. The Na<+> concn. is held between 4.5 and 6.0 mol/l and NaOH is extracted from the cathode chamber.
