The invention relates to a process for charging of metal carrying materials containing a fine proportion and at least partially reduced, in a melt gasifier in which a melt gasification zone formed by a bed is maintained. Said metal carrying materials and the carbon carrying materials are introduced into the melt gasifier above the melt gasification zone. The metal carrying materials sink down to the melt gasification zone and migrate therethrough forming a molten metal and producing a reduction gas by coal gasification. To prevent partial withdrawal of the metal carrying materials from the melt gasifier while said metal carrying materials are being charged, in particular the fine particles thereof, they are introduced into the melt gasifier at a vertical distance below a dome (30) closing the melt gasifier at the top, by gravitational means and forming a strand (44), and the strand (44) is surrounded by a gas jacket (45) which surrounds and accompanies the free falling strand (44) from the formation point (at 40) thereof across a partial region (46) of the fall height, said strand (44) being supported in the partial region (46) thereof by the gas jacket (45) to prevent expansion.
