A segmented alignment tool for aligning flanged couplings (431a, 431b) during initial installation. The tool includes a pair of CRE pins (412a, 412b) which are inserted through roughly aligned bolt holes in the couplings. Each pin is comprised of a steel bar (414) and a soft metal sleeve (416) shrunk fit over the annular, axially extending outer surface of the bar. The pins are connected with a threaded bolt (422) which is inserted through a bore in one pin (412b) and into a threaded bore in the other pin (412a). After the pins are connected, one coupling can be 'scissored' relative to the other by turning the bolt (422) to adjust the axial location of overlap between the pin notches (413a, 413c), and the concentricity between the two couplings can be precisely achieved.
|
